Who we are
Founded by Jasper Wyman in 1874, Jasper Wyman & Son is a family-owned company with a heritage of leadership in the growing and marketing of Wild Blueberries. Over the course of many generations, the company has perfected the science of fresh freezing fruit to maintain optimum flavor and nutritional benefits. Its signature brand, Wyman’s, is recognized as setting the quality standard for premium frozen fruit.
Today, you will find the Wyman’s brand on the world’s finest Wild Blueberries, grown on more than 10,000 acres of our own barrens as well as the fields of other Wyman’s growers from Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, where our subsidiary Wyman’s of PEI is located. We invite you to view a short video about growing, harvesting, and fresh-freezing Wyman’s Wild Blueberries.
As a vertically integrated company, we assure the quality of our products from start to finish. In addition to Wild Blueberries, Wyman’s also supplies superior quality Frozen Blackberries, Raspberries, Strawberries and Mangoes, sourced from family farms in the US and abroad. We are one of the largest importers of frozen berries in North America.
Sustainability Matters
Wyman’s farms and processing plants are living proof of our commitment to sustainable agriculture and the welfare of future generations. We take our responsibilities as good employers and good neighbors seriously. And we are deeply engaged in protecting the health of honeybees – the pollinators that sustain our farms. Sustainability is at the core of Wyman’s commitment to People & Planet.
No Bees, No Berries
For a bug with stingers, bees sure are pretty sweet. Every single fruit we harvest, and one third of the produce on our planet, owe their very existence to the pollinating efforts of bees. Without them, there simply is no us — and yet at this very moment bees everywhere are in trouble. That’s why at Wyman’s we have made preserving them for future generations one of our top priorities.
Generations of Going Wild
In 1874, Jasper Wyman founded a seafood canning company in his hometown of Milbridge, in Downeast Maine. By 1900, he had shifted the focus of the Jasper Wyman & Son enterprise to the region’s most abundant natural resource: Wild Blueberries.
Over the next century, Jasper’s descendants acquired thousands of acres of fields and barrens, including the highest-yielding Wild Blueberry acres in the world. In 1998, Wyman’s acquired a processing plant on Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada, and followed Jasper’s formula of becoming a large landowner there. With our subsidiary, Wyman’s of PEI, Wyman’s is the leading grower, processor and marketer of this unique, amazingly healthy little fruit: Wild Blueberries.
Wyman’s is still family owned. Most of our blueberries come from over 10,000 acres of our own Wild Blueberry barrens and from the coastal hills, ridgelines and fields of other Wyman growers in Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
Fresher than Fresh
We sort, clean and process our Wild Blueberries within hours of being picked, using state-of-the-art technology to preserve their flavor, quality and antioxidant capacity. We use winnowing machines in the fields to remove twigs and leaves during harvesting. Within hours, our berries are individually quick frozen (IQF), ensuring “fresher than fresh” taste and nutrition. Before we package Wyman’s Wild Blueberries, we use color laser sorters to remove anything but the finest quality berries. We invite you to learn more about our commitment to quality, food safety and value.
Wild and Beyond
In the late 1990s, Wyman’s began a comprehensive sourcing program for other berry fruits in Chile as well as premium fruits from other parts of the world. Wyman’s now stands as one of the largest importers of frozen berries in North America. And the same values that guided our family enterprise from the beginning are in place today. With a heritage that began with Wild Blueberries and continues to grow, we remain committed to sustainable practices that will protect people and the planet for future generations.
Our commitment to health
At Wyman’s we have made our mission simple: Help the world eat more fruit. Because fruit is fun, fruit is delicious and fruit is wildly healthy.
Why Fruit?
In all its scrumptious and colorful variety, Wyman’s frozen fruit is packed with a wide range of nutrients that are vital to your health. In fact, research shows that people who eat more fruit are more likely to have increased brain, heart and gut health. Pretty impressive for something so tasty…
We Owe Everything To Our Wild Blueberries.
They’ve given us a purpose, they’ve given our communities nutrition, and they have opened our doors to like-minded farmers. That’s why we partner with family-owned farms across the planet to provide our customers with the very best mother nature has to offer.
The Wild Story
Started in Maine in 1874, Wyman’s has always been proudly family-owned and operated. With over 17,000 acres of wild blueberry land sprawling from Down East Maine to Eastern Canada, we believe we have a duty to the land, and are committed to sustainability, food safety, and quality. Our farms are living proof of our commitment to sustainable agriculture and the health and welfare of generations to come. Our values and farming practices are shared by our partners in North America and around the globe.
Not all blueberries are created equal.
Many people don’t know that there are actually two distinct categories of blueberries. Cultivated or regular blueberries are planted all over the world, whereas wild blueberries have grown and evolved over 10,000 years, and are unique to the fields and barrens of Maine and Eastern Canada.
And with their rich history, come rich benefits.
Small but mighty, wild blueberries are intensely tasty because of their genetic diversity. There are actually hundreds of naturally occurring types of wild blueberries mixed together in every bag. This creates a unique and intense wild blueberry flavor that can’t be duplicated.
